CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
No. 2 Cumberland University vs. No. 1 Martin Methodist College
Martin Methodist College, ranked third in the NAIA, prepares for their eigth contest of the season against an NAIA Top 25 opponent, as they meet Cumberland University, ranked 25th in the NAIA, in the 2005 TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship Final Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2:30 p.m. MMC and CU meet in a rematch of last season's Championship Final, where the RedHawks defeated the Lady Bulldogs 7-0 to win their first-ever TSAC Tournament Championship. MMC will look to repeat this year, while Cumberland will look to pull off the upset for their first-ever TSAC Championship and to enter next week's NAIA Region XI Tournament as a No. 1 or No. 2 seed. The winner of the TSAC and MId-South Conference Tournaments receive the top two seeds in the Regional. LAST MEETING Cumberland traveled to Martin Methodist College on October 5, 2005, losing 2-0 to the RedHawks, as Kelly Lewicki and Clare Sykes scored goals for MMC. The RedHawks' defense held CU to four shots, only one on goal. MMC Defenders Maiko Higashiyama, Victoria Charnley and Johanna Botold will play a big factor in the match, as they have every match, limiting the number of shots on goal faced by All-Conference goalkeeper Sarah Prendergast. Offensively, the 2005 Freshman of the Year, Sara Perrigan will look to show why she led the conference in scoring this season, as Co-Player of the Year Sykes will look to serve up possible assits, or take it straight to the goal, as she did in the previous meeting this year, dribbling the ball 50-yards for the score. CU defender Ciara Kinsella will be expected to show her All-Conference defensive skills to deny the RedHawks a solid look at the goal, as Maylee Attin-Johnson will look to capitalize off of her goal and two assist in the semi-finals to mount an offensive attack on MMC. Leanna Rice, one of the top goalkeepers in the conference, will face a challenge of keeping the ball out of the net, as she posted 14 saves against MMC in their first meeting this year.
