CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

No. 1 Martin Methodist College vs. No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College -- 2:30 p.m.

Martin Methodist makes their first trip to the NAIA Regional Final in program history as they match up against the defending national champions for the second time this season. The winner takes the region and an automatic bid to the 22nd Annual NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Tournament in Olathe, Kansas, while the loser waits to grab an at large bid.
Earlier this season Martin Methodist College traveled to Columbia, Ky. on October 8 to meet Lindsey Wilson in a Top 10 battle, coming out on top 2-0. Clare Sykes scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute of play, while Amanda Johansson added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
So far eight region champions have been crowned across the nation, as #4 Simon Fraser won Region I, #11 St. Mary won Region IV, Robert Morris won Region VII, Indiana Wesleyan won Region VIII, #2 Houghton won Region IX & X, Bethel defeated #16 Covenant in Region XII, #5 Lee defeated #16 Berry in Region XIII and Savannah Art and Design won Region XIV.
In addition to the Region XI winner, two other teams from Regions II and III will advance to Olathe today. #1 Azusa Pacific meets #10 Point Loma Nazarene in the Region II final today, while #4 Graceland was upset by #20 Lindenwood in the Region V semi-finals Monday. The Region V and VI Finals will be played Wednesday, November 9.

SEMI-FINAL REVIEW

No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College 2, No. 3 Cumberland University 1

Lindsey Wilson College avoided taking Monday’s first semi-final match to overtime by scoring the game-winning goal with 3.8 seconds remaining on the clock in regulation to defeat Cumberland University 2-1.
The Blue Raiders took the early lead with a goal by Hishamar Falconer, assisted by Jodi Ann McGregor, in the 28th minute of play. Cumberland tied it up when Ciara Kinsella headed a goal off a corner kick from Nanna Jacobsen with five minutes and 11 seconds to play.
As the regulation time of the match ticked off the clock, the match appeared to be going to overtime, when Laura Stockdale netted the game winner in a mass of Lindsey white and blue jerseys, getting the assist from Vicky Falk.

No. 1 Martin Methodist College vs. No. 4 Georgetown College -- 2:30 p.m.

Martin Methodist College was determined not to relive the 2004 Region XI semifinals when Georgetown College defeated them 2-1 with less than a minute to play in the game. This year the RedHawks jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Clare Sykes and Maria Sonnerborg to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
Georgetown scored their only goal of the match in the 57th minute of play when Sandy Doss scored a goal that deflected off of MMC defender Rachel Sharp, who was in the net trying to clear the ball.
Less than 10 minutes later, Sara Perrigan broke through the Tigers’ defense to score a goal in the 67th minute and again in the 69th minute. Harumi Someya also added a pair of goals in the 86th and 87th minutes.
