Victoria Charnley headed the golden goal in a 2-1 victory of Bethel College with just a minute and a half remaining in double overtime to lift Martin Methodist College to their third-consecutive TranSouth Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship at the East Campus Soccer Field Saturday.

The goal came as a result of a corner kick by Shannon Walter with 1:37 remaining on the clock, as Walter picked up her 20th assist of the season.

MMC and Bethel battled to a scoreless first half in similar fashion to their regular season meeting. Julia Bazi netted the RedHawks' first goal in the 47th minute off a free kick that was tipped into the goal by Bethel keeper Ugo Opara's save attempt.

The Wildcats slipped past the RedHawks' defense to post only two shots in the second half on RedHawks' keeper Sarah Prendergast. Leah O'Grady collected Bethel's first shot, which was blocked by Prendergast, but Miranda Tabaks was there for a rebound and goal to tie the match 1-1 in the 61st minute.

The first over time period was played mostly in the midfield. Bethel kicked off to start the 10-minute period, posting a shot wide left on an early possession, while MMC collected only two shots. MMC controlled the next eight and a half minutes of play, collecting five shots on goal.

Prendergast had four saves, while Opana had 12.

Both teams advance to the NAIA Region XI Tournament. More details on the tournament will be released next week. Bethel will compete in a Region play-in match Saturday, Nov. 4, while MMC earns a bye into the semifinals, hosted by Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 6-7.
