James B. Smith Jr., served at Martin Methodist College from 1950 through mid -1986 as a maintenance man and bus driver. He was a confidant of students, a friend of faculty and staff and a leader in the integration of the college community in the mid- 1960’s. James was a good husband and father and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bodenham, Tennessee. Two of his three children are Martin Alums, J. B. Smith ’73 and William David Smith ’79. James was devoted to Martin Methodist College and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.
