Head Coach Melinda Sevier enters her 11th season as head coach of the Men's Tennis Program and 10th season with the Women's Tennis Program. In the short history of the Tennis Program at Martin Methodist College both of Coach Sevier's teams have managed to show their strenghths by becoming competitive in the tough TranSouth Conference and also making appearances in the NAIA Region XI Championships. Her women shared a part of the TranSouth Athletic Conferenceh Regular Season Championship in 2002, making Region XI appearances that season and in 2005, while the men have appeared in the Region XI Tournament in 2003 and 2006.
In 2006 she watched as Olivier Thouvenot became the first Martin Methodist Tennis All-American, as he was selected to the NAIA All-America Second Team. He was ranked through the season by the ITA in singles play and in doubles play with partner Laurent Columbo.
Coach Sevier has a B.S. degree and a M.Ed. degree from the University of Memphis. She coached both the women's basketball team and the women's tennis team at Rhodes College in 1975-76. After moving to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, in 1976, she continued giving group and private lessons, coaching some of the best high school players in the area. She also competed in and won many local tournaments in the late 70's and 80's capturing a women's single's state title in 1980. Previous to this position, Coach Sevier served as Athletic Director at Highland Christian Academy in Pulaski, Tennessee.
She and husband William (Bill) R. Sevier reside in Lawrenceburg and have six children and three grandchildren. Their daughter, Clare, was the OVC Tennis Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998, playing for Middle Tennessee State University.
