Jeff Bain is in his 15th year at Martin Methodist College, coming to the school in 1993 as the Special Assistant to the President with responsibilities of overseeing the MMC athletic department transition from a 2-year institution to a 4-year institution before taking over as Athletic Director.
During his time at MMC, Jeff has provided leadership in an array of firsts; including, MMC’s Sports Hall of Fame; MMC’s Governor Ned McWherter Award of Excellence; MMC’s Intercollegiate Athletic Policy and Procedure Manual; MMC’s Acquistion of land and the building of athletic venues at the school's East Campus; MMC’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee; MMC’s Champions of Character Program; MMC’s Sport Management academic and intern program; the development of creative marketing and funding opportunities for MMC sports; and the addition of six intercollegiate programs. Also, under his leadership, his athletic programs have captured twelve TranSouth Athletic Conference Championships and one NAIA National Championship.
Jeff has been recognized by his peers for his leadership at MMC. He was awarded the TranSouth Athletic Director of the Year in 1999-00, 2000-01, and 2006-07; he was the NAIA Region XI Athletic Director of the Year in 2000-01; and he was the NACDA Southeast Regional Athletic Director of the Year in 2001-02. Also under his leadership, MMC has received numerous NACMA Awards for outstanding athletic marketing and promotions. These awards include Gold Awards for Best T-shirt Design, Best Target Group Promotion, Best Single Day Attendance Promotion, Best New Revenue Generating Idea, and Best Radio Commercial.
Jeff currently serves on the MMC’s Senior Executive Council, the TranSouth’s Executive Committee, and on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). He recently completed a six-year term with the NAIA Region XI Management Committee, where he served as Chair and sat on two NAIA national councils.
Prior to joining MMC's administration team, Jeff served the State of Tennessee for 15 years as a classroom educator and football and track coach at Tullahoma High School, Farragut High School and Giles County High School.
He earned both his BS in Secondary Education, Science, Health and Physical Education in 1978, followed by a M.ED in Educational Administration and Supervision in 1983 from the University of Memphis. He was a four-year letter winner with the Memphis football team serving as equipment manager, and also served as the Student President of the HPER Department, receiving the Ralph Hatley Award (Outstanding Male Physical Education Award) in 1997.
A native of Jackson, Tenn., Jeff and his wife, Donna, a teacher at Southside Elementary School, reside in Pulaski and have two children, Nathan a freshman at the University of Oregon and Rachel a freshman at Giles County High School.
