Head Coach Andy Sharpe is set to begin his second campaign at the helm of the RedHawks basketball program. In just his first season, Sharpe has helped the RedHawks basketball team re-emerge onto the national stage, highlighted by a National Tournament appearance, the program’s first in 4 years.
The RedHawks compiled a record of 25-8 overall, 15-5 in TranSouth Conference play, and a final ranking of #11 in the national poll during the 07-08 campaign. The RedHawks secured a #12 seed at the National Tournament in Kansas City.
Martin Methodist has slowly begun to reestablish themselves as a power in the TranSouth and in the national rankings, shown by spending 11 consecutive weeks in the Top 25 during the 2007-2008 season. The RedHawks spent the last 4 weeks in the Top 12 before peaking at #10 nationally and settling into a final ranking of #11.
At only 29 years of age, Sharpe has already amassed career record of 66-37 for a career winning percentage of 64%. His RedHawks have flown high at home boasting a 12-3 record in the friendly confines of the Curry Christian Life Center. Several players have received special accolades under Coach Andy Sharpe’s tutelage during the 07-08 season. Kendaris Pelton was a 2nd Team All-American as well as 1st Team All TranSouth Conference and TranSouth Newcomer of the Year. Kevin Green made the 2nd Team All Conference squad while Carlton Peete and Chris Murdock were named to the TranSouth “Scholar Athlete” Team.
Prior to his arrival at Martin Methodist, Sharpe spent two seasons as the Head Coach at Emmanuel College in Georgia leading his teams to a 41-29 record. While inheriting a 4-28 Emmanuel team at the age of 26, Sharpe transformed the Lions into a conference contender by winning 14 games his first season and an unbelievable 27 wins in his second year and an appearance in the 2007 SSAC (Southern States Athletic Conference) Conference Championship game. For his efforts, Coach Sharpe was awarded the SSAC Coach of the Year award.
Sharpe earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Reinhardt College and an M.S. in Physical Education from North Georgia College and State University.
Sharpe is married to the former Mandy Bonifacious of Tunnel Hill, GA. She is an admissions counselor at Martin Methodist and the couple resides in Pulaski.
