Martin Methodist College: James Mason joins the RedHawks this season, but will serve as a redshirt this spring.
Mt. Juliet High School: In 2005, Mason started as a senior at Mt. Juliet under Mark Purvis and Barry Eddings, playing right field and batting seventh in the lineup. He went to state tournament in the last three seasons of travel ball with the Mt. Juliet Grizzlies. His father played for Trevecca Nazarene University for two years. Mason was cut from his high school team his freshman and sophomore years but worked hard to become a starter his senior year.
Personal: Born December 26, 1986 in Donelson, Tenn... He is the son of Jimmy and Cheri Mason, and has two sisters Ashlee (21), a Christian education major at MMC, and Caroline (15), sophomore at Mt. Juliet High School who lettered in volleyball and softball as a freshman... Major is currently undecided... His hobbies include golf, baseball, fishing, movies and cars.
Coach Ogilvie’s Comments: "James will, more than likely, be redshirted this Season. With the players in front of James at this time, it will benefit him, and the Team, for him to spend time getting stronger and developing his skills to the level required at the College Level. Had a solid Fall but is caught in the numbers game. Have not ruled out bringing him into this season if we have injuries, or, players not producing. James has worked hard this Fall and will continue to improve. Had a solid season for Mt. Juliet last season."
