LEBANON, Tenn. (5/2) - Martin's Methodist's Maria Charrys was named the TranSouth Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after helping Martin Methodist win the NAIA Qualifying Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn., posting victories in all six of her matches, including three at No. 1 doubles and three at No. 3 singles. Charrys was the only RedHawks player to post victories in singles and doubles in all three of MMC's team victories in the tournament.
The freshman lost just eight total games in three singles victories, defeating Reinhardt University's Kayla Spivey, Cumberland University's Anita Rácz and Milligan College's Caitlin Conley.
In doubles, Charrys and Paloma Cortinawon 8-3 over Reinhardt's Spivey and Mandy Renta, edged Cumberland's Larissa Akari Miura and Courtney Schaub, 9-7, and won 8-1 over Milligan's Kalya Kelly and Ahmee Kelly.
Charrys upped her records to 13-6 in singles and 11-4 in doubles since enrolling at MMC in January. It is the second Player of the Week honor this season for Charrys.
