PULASKI, Tenn. (4/11) - MMC women's tennis improved their 9-5 record this week with a 2-1 posting across three weekly matches. After dropping a 1-8 match to University of North Alabama on Wednesday, the RedHawks bounced back with a pair of wins, 6-3 over University of West Alabama and 6-3 over Georgetown College.
Paloma Cortina (Freshman/ Azuqueca de Henares, Spain) and Maria Charrys (Freshman/ Valledupar, Colombia) were the sole winners at UNA, defeating Victoria Rees and Bruna Vieira in doubles. Cortina and Charrys also collected doubles wins at UWA, as Cortina, Charrys, Mikaela Long (Senior/Centerville, Tenn.), and Rachel Wolfe (Sophomore/Lewisburg, Tenn.) picked up singles wins.
Long was honored on Saturday prior to the Georgetown College match for her four years at Martin Methodist College. The MMC women's tennis only senior this year has been recognized three times this season as the TranSouth Player of the Week.
MMC continues competition this week after a Monday rain out with University of North Alabama, and will travel to University of Alabama-Huntsville and Tennessee Wesleyan later in the week.
